Dog Accessories for your Campervan Canine

When travelling with your dog you want them to be comfortable and enjoy being on the road as much as you do! So with that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of our top motorhome dog accessories for you (and your dog) to have a look at.

1: Dealing with a wet dog

There are bound to be times when your four-legged friend gets a bit wet – whether from a dip in the sea or getting caught in a rain shower. That’s why I think that this Microfibre dog robe by Arcadian, is pretty essential! Pair this robe with a microfibre towel and your dog will be dry in no time.

This microfibre dog robe is lightweight and super absorbent (it can hold 8 x its own weight in water!) It pulls water away from your dog’s coat, and is naturally antibacterial too. The dog robe comes in different sizes, is easy to use, and most importantly it is comfortable for your dog. Why wouldn’t you want one?

If you want to go one step further…

How about one of these Dry Fast Dog Bags. You just zip the bag around your wet or muddy dog and give them a rub to dry them off.

After a day at the beach, or a dip in the river – or even one of those occasional romps through mud, this dry dog bag is just what you need. It’ll keep all the unwanted stuff out of your motorhome! The dog’s body heat helps to dry them off, and the dirt stays in the bag. The bag can be machine washed and tumbled dry too.

The PoochOneZee Dry Dog Bag comes in a range of sizes and the reviews of this product are really good – there is even a ‘love it or your money back’ guarantee!

2: Dealing with a hot dog

Does your dog feel the heat? If so, then this may be the perfect accessory for you. The Scruffs Cool Dog Mat is designed to provide relief for when your pet finds it just too warm. The mat will typically be 5-10 degrees cooler than room temperature.

The cool mat is filled with a non-toxic gel, (the gel reactivates between uses). It has a wipe clean cover and is easy to fold and transport, making it ideal for use in your motorhome. If your dog has trouble staying cool – then this could be just thing for you!

And what about a Dog Cooling Coat?

The cooling mat is great when you can put the mat down for your dog to lay on, but what if you are out walking? When exercising your dog in warm weather then a dog cooling coat is just the thing. It works by evaporation – you wet the cooling coat and place it on your dog, then as the coat slowly dries it cools your dog.

We’ve seen loads of dogs wearing these this summer, they’re obviously very popular, and judging by the reviews they work really well too. The coat shown in the link is a medium but they come in sizes from XS to XL!

3: Keeping your canine cosy

Another must-have motorhome dog accessory, is a luxurious pet blanket. Perfect for keeping your dog warm and comfy – as well as protecting your seats!

This PetFusion plush blanket is soft and cosy and its neutral colours and stylish design look great too. It is shed resistant and machine washable, and comes in four different sizes. This blanket has brilliant reviews, so the pet parents obviously like it as much as their doggies do!

And what about outside…

Does your dog want to lay outside? Then what about this waterproof roll-up pet bed. No need to be concerned about your dog laying on the damp grass, just unroll this bed and he or she will have a cosy place to lay. Comes with its own bag for easy transport.

4: Keeping your dog watered on the move

How about this – a non-spill pet water bowl!

The Road Refresher non-spill bowl is ideal for use when travelling. It can be filled with water and then safely left within your vehicle, so your pet has access to fresh water whenever they want. The bowl has a Velcro base so fixes to carpets or rugs. It has additional safe fixing pads for fixing the water bowl to most other surfaces too.

How does it work? – It has a floating insert inside the bowl, that feeds enough water through for your dog to drink, yet immediately restricts the flow whenever there is a surge of water from cornering, braking – or accidentally kicking it! It comes in two sizes, has great reviews, and is possibly one of my favourite motorhome dog accessories.

5: Keeping your dog fed on the move

I think this product looks great…

This Dog Food Bowl/Foldable Silicone Mat is ideal for travelling, and has plenty of favourable reviews. Made from food-grade silicone, it is bacteria and mould resistant, and provides a hygienic safe eating area.

6: Giving your dog his own safe space

This easily transportable Petsfit lightweight dog crate comes in two different sizes (medium and large) and in three different colours too – great for matching your motorhome decor! It is foldable, and made from high quality lightweight durable and water-resistant material.

Easy to assemble (just two zips) and to disassemble, it sets up and folds down in seconds. It comes with its own carrying case and the removable fleece pad can be machine washed. The zipped front can be rolled up and secured to allow your pet easy access, and the front, back and side mesh give good ventilation.

This pet crate has excellent reviews. The consensus seems to be that the crate is flexible but made of tough and sturdy materials and judging by the reviews, people seem to be impressed by the quality of the dog crate too.

7: Cleaning up after your dog

Now, one unavoidable part of life with our canine pals is picking up their poo! We are all familiar with the plastic bag with the knot in it that we casually swing while we look for a suitable disposal point (no? – just me then). Well, this product changes all that.

Let me introduce you to The Dicky Bag Dog Waste Bag. It comes in different sizes and colours and is made from neoprene. Reassuringly, it is leak proof and machine washable. There’s plenty of room inside and it has a pocket for your ‘poo bags’; it also comes with a carabiner clip to attach it to your rucksack, dog lead or harness.

So, there are some of our favourite dog accessories

There will always be more things we could have added… I mean where do you stop? But hopefully we’ve covered the basics and perhaps introduced you to something you may not have thought of yourself.

With any luck, you’ll have found a product or two among these motorhome dog accessories to enhance your travelling experience, and to help keep your canine’s tail wagging!
